REI2005 Keynote Address

Dr. S.K. Ghosh

S.K. Ghosh Associates Inc.

Dr. S.K. Ghosh heads his own consulting practice, S.K. Ghosh Associates Inc., in Palatine, Illinois and Laguna Niguel, California. He was formerly Director, Engineering Services, Codes, and Standards, Portland Cement Association, Skokie, Illinois, and is Adjunct Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Ghosh is known internationally for his work in earthquake engineering. He has influenced seismic design provisions in the United States for many years by serving on or chairing numerous committees and advisory panels. He specializes in the analysis and design, including earthquake and wind resistant design, of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures. Dr. Ghosh is active on many national technical committees and is a fellow of ACI and PCI. He is a member of ACI Committee 318 (Standard Building Code), the Masonry Standards Joint Committee, and the ASCE 7 Standard Committee (Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures). Dr. Ghosh is currently offering his seminars on transitioning from the UBC to the IBC code throughout the country.

Women of Engineering:

The discussion panel, “Women of Engineering,” will feature three Chief Engineers of the largest ENR firms (Bechtel, CH2M HILL and Washington Group International) in the world. They will discuss the ever changing landscape of Structural Engineering at the enterprise level.

REI2005 Focus: “Interoperability – Learn how to be more productive through integration using STAAD.Pro 2005 and other popular structural products”

Year after year, attendees of the annual STAAD and Structural Products Conference say it’s the most productive engineering conference they attend. With speakers from AISC, renowned engineering firms like Parsons, Jacobs and Minoru Yamasaki & Associates and engineers from Capitol Hill discussing outsourcing, our users claim it’s the most productive source of current trends in structural engineering. REI2005 is an annual conference held BY STAAD engineers with STAAD partners like Tekla, LARSA, DESCON, Structural Desktop, Intergraph and Bentley FOR users and their bosses who want to understand the latest technologies in structural modeling, analysis, design and detailing. The REI2005 STAAD and Structural Products Conference includes hundreds of time saving techniques to increase your efficiency in the design office, product training, updates, and the usage of STAAD on real-world applications.

In just two days, most attendees come out with a better understanding of the latest design codes, more contacts through networking, a more efficient approach to modeling and a clearer picture on the current and future status of the engineering industry. Attendees include a myriad of structural firms representing the petrochemical, bridge, commercial building, government, transportation, maritime, seismic retrofitting and geotechnical/foundation industries. Come join us this year to learn how to take your company to the forefront of structural engineering technology.

New Topics & Discussions:

  • Modeling using cambers and imperfections
  • Using the ASCE 7-02 in STAAD to automatically model snow and wind loads
  • Using AISC Design Guide 2 (Web Openings) to reduce the amount of steel in your project
  • Learn to use the new composite floor object in STAAD and quickly determine stud spacings and quantities
  • Using AISC Design Guide 11 (Floor Vibrations) to minimize the vibrations caused by rhythmic activity
  • Bring in steel connection design (moment, shear, splice, brace and seismic) in-house by learning about the new integration with DESCON, the most popular connection design software in the US
  • A quick glance of STAAD’s new pushover analysis for trusses and beams as per ATC and FEMA specifications and how this new analysis approach will change the way you do business in the next few years
  • Be the first to see (possibly win a chance to name!) the next generation of STAAD to be launched in 2006
  • Advanced non-linear analysis for bridges and buildings using LARSA
REI2005 Conference Highlights:
