REI TEAMS UP WITH LARSA TO ENTER THE BRIDGE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION MARKET
YORBA LINDA, CA - October 1, 2003 - Research Engineers International (REI), a division of netGuru, Inc. (Nasdaq: NGRU), provider of STAAD.Pro and other world class engineering software for structural engineering design and analysis, today announced that it has entered into a strategic venture with LARSA, Inc. (“LARSA”), manufacturer of high-end software solutions for stage construction analysis of buildings and bridges for seismic, non-linear and time-dependent effects. The venture encompasses the integration of the LARSA and STAAD products to create the “Combined Product,” which will address the entire spectrum of structural analysis and design needed to perform a wide variety of analysis for different types of structures like cable-stayed bridges, pre-cast segmental box girder bridges and multi-story buildings. The Combined Product will be integrated at the application level enabling engineers to take their models from STAAD into LARSA software and add advanced elements to properly model a structure subjected to earthquake effects or to model lanes of vehicles moving over the structure or even perform a pushover analysis to measure how that structure behaves once its materials begin to fail.
STAAD’s strength lies in the multi-material and international design codes it supports along with its long-standing relationships with major transportation agencies around the world. Currently, 47 out of the 50 State Department of Transportation’s use REI’s STAAD products. The LARSA software has been used on marquee projects such as the Charles River cable-stayed bridge in Boston, the George Washington Bridge in New York and the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington State. REI will have exclusive worldwide rights to sell the Combined Product and assume all marketing and sales.
Commenting on the development, Amrit Das, Chairman & CEO of netGuru said, “We are excited about teaming with LARSA to enter the bridge market. The LARSA structural analysis engine has been in commercial use for over 25 years and REI has been the world leader of structural analysis and design software for steel, concrete and aluminum for about the same period of time.
“In our industry, this type of a collaboration between two well-recognized and complementary service providers is unique. With LARSA’s 25 years of experience in the bridge market coupled with REI’s international presence and support of multi-material and international design codes, the Combined Product is well positioned to provide bridge engineers with a comprehensive solution that is sorely needed,” Das added.
About LARSA
The LARSA structural analysis engine has been in commercial use for over 25 years. It was originally developed to perform nonlinear static analysis of structures that have large displacements such as suspension and cable stayed bridges and guyed towers. The engine became popular for analyses of these types of structures because of its unprecedented accuracy at a reasonable price. In 1996, LARSA was the first to offer elastic/perfectly plastic pushover analysis for buildings and bridges. In 2001, LARSA released the 6th version of its product, LARSA 2000/4th Dimension, which included new analytical features like influence line based moving load analysis, staged construction analysis, time dependent construction analysis, hysteretic and seismic elements and progressive collapse.
