NETGURU EXPANDING PRESENCE IN ASIA
REI Engineering Software Division Seeing Strong Growth in China, Opens Office In Thailand
YORBA LINDA, CA - December 17, 2003 - netGuru, Inc. (Nasdaq: NGRU), is increasing market presence in Asia, with its Research Engineers International (REI) engineering software division experiencing strong sales growth in China and responding to rising construction activity in Thailand through its new office in Bangkok.
Sales of STAAD.Pro engineering software, customized for the growing needs of the Chinese market, are rising strongly, which the company attributes to demand from large engineering firms and educational institutions. Contributing to sales growth are several of the largest engineering firms in China—Northwest Electric Power Design Institute, China National Petroleum, and Jinan Diesel Engine Company—that have purchased multiple LAN (local area network) copies of STAAD.Pro. In addition, fifteen of the leading civil engineering and technology universities in China have purchased STAAD.Pro and are incorporating it into their curriculums beginning in fall 2005.
Initial sales of a new module for STAAD.Pro also indicates strong demand for REI engineering software products. Following a series of seminars unveiling the module, which supports the latest concrete codes for buildings in China, more than 350 copies of the module were sold to existing STAAD.Pro users. The new module is also expected to boost sales of STAAD.Pro to new users.
Sales of an engineering program customized for the Thai language are also coming from the Company's new REI office in Bangkok and are the result of rising construction activity in Thailand.
Amrit Das, chairman and CEO, commented: "We are pleased with these positive developments in the Asian market, especially in China, which is itself a very large market. REI is the leader in structural analysis and design software for not only concrete but also steel and aluminum, and we expect continuing growth in market share for our software products. REI software supports multi-materials and is adaptable to international design codes, which is consistent with our strategy to offer comprehensive engineering solutions that are also cost-effective for a broad range of markets and engineering requirements.
"We are also excited about the longer-term benefits from STAAD.Pro being used in the universities throughout China," Das continued. "During the coming years, thousands of new engineers will be graduating from these schools and entering the workforce, already familiar and comfortable with STAAD.Pro and, therefore, ready to use it in their profession. We feel this holds interesting and very positive implications for the Company's long-term growth."
